... A war to end all wars?!

Image Walter Kleinfedt (1917). His son, Volkmar, sais "this image is like an accusation, an accusation against war"

AT dawn the ridge emerges massed and dun
In the wild purple of the glow'ring sun,
Smouldering through spouts of drifting smoke that shroud
The menacing scarred slope; and, one by one,
Tanks creep and topple forward to the wire.
The barrage roars and lifts. Then, clumsily bowed
With bombs and guns and shovels and battle-gear,
Men jostle and climb to meet the bristling fire.
Lines of grey, muttering faces, masked with fear,
They leave their trenches, going over the top,
While time ticks blank and busy on their wrists,
And hope, with furtive eyes and grappling fists,
Flounders in mud. O Jesus, make it stop!

  1. Hello Cider Pilgrim!

Is there any chance for some new Cider reviews? To be honest, i am linking to your blog via my cider store, and your last entry about the great war is quite irritating (considering questions related to cider, at least). Hope you are doing well, and it would be great to hear about some cider news from you - because you are one of the best cider-experts!!

  2. Christoph - Please accept my apologies. It was not my intention to leave this as the 'front page' but so much has taken priority this year (trying to keep up with demand for my own cider as much as anything else!!) However, thanks for continuing to link to the site.

You will hopefully be pleased to hear that I have several new reviews in varying degrees of completion and I will start releasing them shortly.

    All the best
